I attribute the high success rate in the few throws at Asomugha as being that a QB wouldn't want to throw unless there was a pretty good amount of space. But any cornerback is more likely to get thrown at on a play he underperforms. As does man coverage versus zone coverage. Obviously, the quality of the rest of the defense matters. What did Revis' worst 28 plays look like? Or Woodson's? Still, that means that Asomugha's worst 28 plays was 6.4% of the pass-play snaps, and about 7.4% of yards. The Raiders being behind so much, only got 438 throws for 3303 yards. Thanks for the stats! It seems to me that a team normally gets thrown at somewhat over 500 times a season these days. I think Ware is more valuable than both but hey. I think Revis is more valuable to his better defense than Woodson if you were going to pick a cornerback. Just because Woodson plays a number of different spots doesn't make him more valuable. In the scheme the Jets run with their high number of crazy blitzes exceptional cover corners have much greater value because they can eliminate mistakes on the backend. Woodson has a wider role (run stopping, blitzing) but the reason he does is because of the style of defense the Packers run. Revis performs the cover corner role much better than Woodson. In terms of Revis verses Woodson, I don't think it is at all clear that Woodson has more value to his defense than Revis. I think this another example of writers just being unimaginative and looking straight at stats (similar to how Harrison won over Polamalu and Ware last year).
Demarcus Ware has a larger defensive impact than Woodson. I'm sorry if they were looking for the guy with bigger overall defensive impact then it still shouldn't have been Woodson.
